Welcome to Sense, an architectural lighting design practice formed by Carl Everett. Look here in the coming months as further information is posted about new projects.

company profile

Sense is an independent lighting design practice that works with other creatives to design immersive environments. We're a small, young firm, but our experience is extensive and drawn from a history at larger firms that are recognized as top of class among the architectural and lighting design communities. Our process is modeled on the methods of these larger firms, and we hold our work to the highest professional standards.

Rather than staffing an office with a reception and IT department, we source physical resources and collaborators as needed for each project. Sense enjoys low operating overhead and a flexible structure, meaning lower design fees for our clients.

We're driven by a recognition that there can be drama and grace in the physical environments we encounter daily. We enhance the vibrancy of everyday experience by harnessing light’s effect upon our habitats.

principal profile

Sense was founded by Carl Everett, an acute observer of light for fifteen years. He has been designing lighting for architecture since 2004 and for theater, opera, and dance since 1999.

Carl trained in architectural lighting at the prestigious firms Fisher Marantz Stone and Focus Lighting. He later traveled to the UK where he was a visiting designer at Speirs + Major's Edinburgh and London studios. Prior to forming Sense, Carl was a project designer at Melanie Freundlich Lighting Design, where he designed a high-end residential tower, educational facilities, a private gallery, and the home of a non-profit performing arts institution. He maintains relationships with these companies and collaborates with them on a per-project basis.

Carl joined the board of directors of the Designers Lighting Forum (DLF) in October 2011.
